Hsichih Mazu Temple Cultural Architecture

Cultural Heritage

Hsichih Mazu Temple is a temple building located in the Xizhi district of New Taipei City. The design keeps the traditional temple structure while reinterpreting its form through the vertical proportions of Gothic architecture. The building rises 45 meters on a base of 990 square meters. Light is the central theme, referring to the Goddess Mazu as a guiding light at sea. Flying eaves are transformed into a swallowtail shape that recalls waves and a boat hull. The exterior is made of architectural concrete, chosen for the rainy and humid climate.
